For a few moments I really think I've got their number. As Brian and
Amanda waddle onto the darkened stage, their limbs constrained by the
black hood like body bags, "bagism" rings through my brain. How
perfect! Endless 60's images of Yoko Ono and her "bagism" trip come to
mind. Of course Yoko's was usually white but black does fit the
halloween mood. Maybe they'll re-enact the 1969 Toronto peace concert?
Brian as John Lennon can wail out "Cold Turkey;" while Amanda as Yoko
can lie on the stage extending her arm from under the bag with the set
lists and new lyrics. How much more shocked am I then when they emerge
as Sonny and Cher! Hey, at least I got the decade right. And truth be
told, Brian as Sonny looks quite a bit like "White Album" era George
Harrison--an ever so slight Beatle connection. The crowd erupts in laughter
and shouts. Their rendition of "I've Got You Babe" is, dare I write it, movingly
sweet. A knowing connected energy pulsates beneath the posed body
language and odd vocalizations. For beneath the 60's paraphernalia these
Babes in Doll-Land have got each other and all the rest of us as well.

BRIAN & AMANDA
as SONNY & CHER

Dazed, I switch the camera to video mode and capture most of this
opener in framed close-ups. Wait...what the...now Amanda's got both her
hands on her head. One...two and the wig comes off. With a dramatic hair toss
the Strip Tease begins. And what a tease it is. They undress one another
with those knowing winks to the frenzied crowd; fling pieces of clothing
in time to the tease-o-rama drumbeat; and revel in their black taped
breasts. Dr. Frank-N-Furter meets Betty Paige in this 21st century
morphing of a mid-20th century photo spread op.
I keep the video going. Body parts move in and out of the tight frame.
The camera creates a keyhole peek-a-boo perspective, heightening the
"tease." The grainy quality of these color video frame grabs echoes the
low-fi stag films of a bygone era.
DOLLS PEAK-A-BOO STRIPTEASE

Ah, gee...do they really have to put on clothes? Amanda snaps a sparkling
strapless bra around Brian's chest. "Don't cover him up!" implores one
distressed fan. Not to worry. That boy always loses his shirt before
the show ends.

EXCEPT for the OPENING B&W PHOTO, ALL THE COLOR PICS on THIS PAGE are FRAME GRAB SCREENSHOTS from a LO-FI VIDEO AVI.
THE NEXT ARROWS will take you to SEVERAL MORE PAGES of the CONCERT with ACTUAL PHOTOGRAPHS.
